Description and Context

The well-baby clinic at Lincoln Hospital was originally established by Dr. Baird U. Brooks, a white pediatrician in Durham. Each baby's height and weight were recorded to assess nutritional status and overall health. Dr. Cleland continued this clinical assessment and, in the 1950s, determined that by school age, all of his children and caught up to the growth parameters of babies born in the white community.
