Description and Context

The Lincoln Hospital School of Nursing maintained full accreditation from the North Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners until the mid-1960s when the loss of patients at Lincoln Hospital compromised the school's clinical program. Sylvia Overton was one of the faculty members responsible for teaching the students skills in clinical nursing, such as how to give an injection. She is pictured here demonstrating how to draw up fluid into a syringe. (Courtesy of The Scalpel, 1962.)
