Description and Context
The original pediatric was was carved out of half of the library located on the first floor of the hospital. Seen here is Dr. George Jackson, an intern, examining a child. Dr. Cleland helped obtain advanced training for all the nurses in the photograph; one went to the University of Pennsylvania, and later returned to serve as a head nurse at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
