Lincoln Hospital

Description

Lincoln Community Health Center is a primary care facility located in Durham, North Carolina since opening its doors as Lincoln Community Hospital in 1901. Lincoln Hospital was accredited by the American Medical Association for internship training in 1925, and by the American College of Surgeons for surgery residency training in October 1933. Under the leadership of Dr. H. Max Schiebel, Lincoln Hospital earned full accreditation for a four-year surgery residency leading to board certification in 1950. With very few internship and residency positions available for African Americans in hospitals throughout the country, those offered at Lincoln Hospital met a national demand for residency training.
