Description and Context

Lincoln Hospital established formal ties with North Caroline College for Negros in 1930. Faculty of the college taught the students psychology, psychiatry, chemistry, and bacteriology. The college library and gymnasium were available also to the Lincoln Hospital nursing students. The close proximity of North Carolina College to Lincoln Hospital enabled the students to walk back and forth to class and the hospital and nurses' home, where they ate their meals and often spent the day studying. These close affiliations continued until the Nursing School closed in 1971. They also enabled some students with additional coursework to receive a bachelor of science in addition to their RN.
