Description and Context

In 1938 the Pediatric Ward of Lincoln Hospital of Durham, North Carolina was moved to the second floor, expanded and renovated with wall murals and space for children to play. The ward was enlarged to accommodate 10 children and infants in cribs. This special ward enable student nurses to obtain specialized pediatrics training from nurse instructors and physicians, including an African American pediatrician.
