Description and Context
Lincoln Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, admitted patients under the Crippled Children's Program because it had on staff two orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Everett Bugg and Dr. Ralph Coonrad, both white surgeons. This enabled Lincoln Hospital surgery residents, such as Dr. Leroy Young, to obtain specialized training in orthopedics.
