Description and Context

Dr. Charles Curry finished medical school at Howard University and an internship at Freedmen's Hospital before he moved to Lincoln Hospital as a second year resident in the newly established Lincoln-Duke internal medicine residency program. After completing his residency, he assumed the role as director of medical education at Lincoln Hospital and established his own clinical practice. As two years as director of medical education, Dr. Curry became the first African American fellow at the Duke-Veterans Affairs Hospital where he received training in cardiology. Upon finishing a cardiology fellowship, he assumed the J.B. Johnson chair of cardiology at Howard University in the Department of Medicine.
