Description and Context
Celebration of Hospital Day each year on May 12th occurred throughout the country. The day was set aside by President Warren G. Harding to commemorate the life and service of Florence Nightingale. In Durham Hospital Day was designed to bring Lincoln Hospital closer to the African-American citizens. Posters describing many services and clinics offered at Lincoln Hospital rested in the front windows in the main businesses located along Fayetteville Street.
