Description and Context

Benjamin N. Duke gave $35,000 in 1925 to construct a new home for the Lincoln Hospital nursing students. This money, combined with income form Dr. Moore's estate, furnished the nurses' home with beds and dresses for each room, couches and chairs for the recreation area, and modern equipment for the classrooms. Dr. Charles Shepard proposed naming it the Angier B. Duke Nurses Home in honor of Mr. Duke's son. (Courtesy of The Scalpel, 1946)
