Description and Context

The nursing students had a 24-hour chaperone, Miss Albertine Mason, whose title was "House Directress." Miss Mason was a mother to many of the girls because of her devotion to oversee their needs. If a student wanted to leave the premises, she had to secure permission first from Miss Mason, who kept a tight watch on curfews (Courtesy of The Scalpel, 1948)
