Description and Context

To meet accreditation requirements, the Lincoln Hospital School of Nursing established affiliations with hospitals available for the training of African-American students. These affiliations included the University of Cincinnati and Freedmen's Hospital for pediatrics; and John Umstead State Hospital in North Carolina and Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, for psychiatry. Pictured here are the students from several programs who rotated through Eastern State Hospital in 1965.
